Position Purpose

Responsible for general ledger accounting functions for operations focusing on the financial statements, from process and analysis through reconciliation and reporting, ensuring the complete and accurate accounting of all operating accounts.

Key Accountabilities
  • Prepares and records journal entries, including monthly accruals, amortizations and internal accounting entries.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts for month-end, year-end, and audit.
  • Records and reconciles all aspects of Capital/Fixed Asset Accounting including managing construction in progress account, monthly additions into Fixed Assets module and monthly depreciation entries.
  • Meets with the Facilities Management Director and Director of Information Technology to review construction in progress and review and understand ongoing projects costs compared to budget and timelines for completion.
  • Assists with Plant Fund Accounting.
  • Tracks and reports on the Academy’s Asbestos Remediation Obligation (ARO).
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to assist in the preparation financial statements.
  • Provides accounting information and reporting to departments as requested.
  • Reconciles daily cash receipt transactions for all accounts receivable and any other payments.
  • Reconciles bank deposit to the respective bank account and GL.
  • Prepares quarterly sales tax and semi-annual fuel tax credit filings.
  • Works with auditors to facilitate timely and efficient audits relating to cash balances, accruals and fixed assets.
  • Reconciles Academy credit card transactions and records month end accruals.
  • Performs accounts payable and credit card internal audits, as necessary, based on identified transactions trends and spends.
  • Acts as a system admin for designated technology tools used within Finance
  • Assists in preparation of materials for trustee meetings, as requested.
  • Assists with preparation of Financial Surveys.
  • Understands and keeps current with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ensures completeness of accounting procedure documentation.
  • Special projects and ad-hoc analysis as necessary.

Incumbent is expected to work with a high level of independence and autonomy, and exercise a high degree of initiative, influence, and judgment in decisions impacting staff and department operations.

Internal & External Contacts

Frequent contact with students, Dean of Students office, PEA administrative and academic offices, faculty, coaches, and staff. External contacts may include parents, outside organizations, visitors and local community neighbors.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
  • CPA preferred.


Experience

  • 3 – 5 years’ accounting experience.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.
