Coordinator of PGM Internships



Position Overview:

Provides on-going coordination of all golf internships for PGA Golf Management students. Serves as a liaison between each student, the internship supervisor at each individual course, and the PGA Golf Management Program Director. Assists with coordinating tournaments and other related activities for the Professional Golf Management program.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Provides on-going coordination of all golf internships for PGA Golf Management students. Serves as a liaison between each student, the internship supervisor at each individual course, and the PGA Golf Management Program Director. Makes initial contact with golf facilities nationwide to arrange internship opportunities that match student interns with appropriate internship sites. Ensures student work schedules are met on each internship. Keep accurate records regarding internship history for each PGM student. Develop methods for creating and maintaining graduate contact information for periodic communications. Provide individual instruction and create game improvement plans. Organize, conduct, and summarize results of PGM student golf tournaments. Make recommendations for additions, revisions or deletions to PGM tournament manual. Receive, deposit and track financial transactions according to university policy. Enforce, monitor, and evaluate individual policies and procedures and make recommendations to Director for addition, revision or deletion. Prospective student recruiting. Assist PGM Director in reviewing PGM student work experience kits. Provide academic and career advisement for PGM students with written documentation to substantiate. Coordinates player development program and other activities related to preparation for students taking the Playing Ability Test (PAT). Assist with organizing and conducting student Player Development activities to aid students in passing the PAT. Create, maintain and display program activities calendar. Develop expertise in financial aid, university housing, campus life, etc. and advise students accordingly. Receive, submit, track and document merchandise and equipment orders. Develop and conduct Growth of the Game initiatives for UCO faculty, staff, students and the community. Maintain strong relationships with the PGA Education Department, PGA Golf Professionals, other PGM Programs, and academic support units on campus. Performs other related activities as directed by the Director of the Professional Golf Management Program.

Scope & Impact: This position is an entry level professional position, with actions that may have a measurable impact on operations within a work group.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by assisting with identification of operational needs and requirements.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for executing routine procedures with direction from senior staff.

Reporting Relationships : Generally reports to manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities : None.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

Requires a bachelors degree in related field to this position plus 3+ years of relevant experience or if no degree, 10+ years of work experience that provides knowledge and expertise to achieve results. A valid drivers license, or ability to obtain a valid drivers license within thirty days of hire, is required for this job. Ability to travel by vehicle locally, statewide and/or out of state. Reliable form of transportation to be able to travel to different sites across the assigned territory. If using personal vehicle, proof of insurance must be provided.

Qualifications Preferred:

Previous supervisory experience. Minimum three years experience in the golf industry. PGA of America Class A Member, Knowledge of PGAPGM curriculum, or PGA Golf Management graduate preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Good communication and organization skills required. Ability to work well with others. Demonstrated ability to play and teach the game of golf. Knowledge of computer software applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Access; QuickBooks or similar accounting applications; Golf Genius or similar Golf Tournament Management applications; TrackMan or V-1, Flight Scope, etc. Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to create detailed and professional reports, budgets, letters, etc. Working knowledge of golf club repair and fitting equipment and techniques. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, organizes activities, meet deadlines and conduct events. Ability to effectively manage confidential and sensitive information. Ability to deal with individuals of diverse backgrounds, interests and education. Demonstrated ability to work independently. The employee is often required to swing and demonstrate the use of a golf club. The employee should have the ability to lift 50 pounds and is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to student traffic, discussions and distractions.
