LGBTQ+ Resource Center Coordinator



Position Announcement

The LGBTQ+ Resource Center Coordinator serves as a resource for lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, transgender, queer, questioning and straight communities on our campus. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with other University departments to coordinate LGBTQ+ outreach, educational and training programs, and services to contribute to the university's strategic goal of promoting success for underserved and underrepresented students by enhancing support for inclusion and equity. This position is fully-funded for one year; contingent upon funding thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate student programming initiatives that connect LGBTQ+ students to the resources available on campus, including educational resource materials.
  • Serve as a club advisor for applicable LGBTQ+ student organizations.
  • Foster student learning and development by serving as a role model, mentor, student advocate, and educator.
  • Serve as liaison between LGBTQ+ students and the Booth Wellness Center to improve and provide mental health services inclusive of LGBTQ+ students.
  • Facilitate workshops, trainings and dialogues for departments and organizations across campus on LGBTQ+ and social justice topics, including SafeZone trainings. Such trainings will be designed and collaborated with Campus Diversity, Multicultural Inclusion Center, and other campus partners.
  • Fulfill annual objectives for the LGBTQ+ Resource Center based on best practices in alignment with university and Campus Diversity policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of newsletters, brochures, web pages, and other marketing materials that can be used to promote inclusion.
  • Represent the Center to the public and work to increase awareness of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least one year experience coordinating student-related activities and programs and/or advising students groups required.
  • Knowledge of sexual orientation and gender identity and issues of concern related to LGBTQ+ and straight people and the intersection with other identities.
  • Demonstrated ability and strong interpersonal skills to work in a multicultural, social justice-oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences, and communication styles required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, teach and build relationships with individuals and groups unfamiliar with LGBTQ communities and issues.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule (e.g. evening and weekend hours) depending on activity and event schedule.


Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $38,000 - $40,000 depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of July/August 2021.
