Executive Director, Division of Professional Studies



Position Overview

The Executive Director of the Division of Professional Studies (DPS) acts as the chief learning officer of the division and oversees all aspects of this new professional education division. Reporting to the Vice President for Strategy & Innovation and Provost, the Executive Director oversees the creation, implementation, and realization of a strategic vision, ensuring that the division is at the forefront of lifelong learning opportunities for adult and online learners and the organizations that employ these learners. In this capacity, the Executive Director will lead the development, delivery and expansion of a catalogue of credit and non-credit credentials, programs and degrees for adult, executive and/or online learners across new markets for the University. In addition to housing its own catalogue of programs, the Executive Director will collaborate with Butler’s Colleges to address markets of mutual interest. The Executive Director is responsible for the long-term academic and fiscal health of the division as well as the management of personnel within the division.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute a strategic plan that delivers programmatic outcomes for adult learners and organizations employing these learners, delivers fiscal results for the division and positions Butler as a leader in adult and online education
  • Develop a catalogue of offerings, based on market demand, for the B2C (Business to Consumer) and B2B (Business to Business) market of adult and online learners
  • Identify, hire and work closely with Subject Matter Experts to design high-quality, highly engaging credit and non-credit offerings
  • Partner with Butler’s Program Accelerator (BPA) as well as Butler’s Colleges on the design, development and launch of new programs
  • Continually assess and redesign the Division’s portfolio of offerings for adult learners
  • Seek corporate and academic partners and channels for program development and delivery
  • Work closely with Butler administrative units - Financial Aid, Bursar’s Office, Information Technology, etc. - to ensure adult and online student needs are exceeded
  • Lead all programmatic approval processes in the division and, where applicable, across the university, collaborating with key partners (Director of BPA, Provost, Vice President for Finance & Administration, Internal & External Subject Matter Experts, Corporate Advisors, etc.)
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations, fiscal and personnel management of the Division
