Purpose of Position

The coordinator will oversee the development and oversight of programming and student success initiatives within the Veterans Resource Station ( VRS ). In addition, the coordinator will be responsible for the delivery and oversight of workshops, events, tabling, and other on-campus activities. This position will offer support to the student support team within the VRS who have the responsibility of supporting veterans, active duty servicemen/servicewomen, visitors to the VRS, and the university community. This position will also support the day-to-day activities within the VRS .

The coordinator will lead recruitment efforts for student veterans, including visiting college fairs, military bases, and regional recruitment events. The coordinator will develop recruitment and promotional materials and working in partnership with Undergraduate Admissions and Marketing and Communication, as needed. This position will oversee tabling at campus events for potential students.

The coordinator will help new student veterans transition into NKU, this includes the explanation of VA Educational Benefits and general questions about them. In addition, the coordinator will help new and current students find resources and support they may need, including resources at the VA and regional support offices.

The coordinator, working in collaboration with the Career Services, will drive career readiness and job-placement efforts for student veterans.

The coordinator, working in collaboration with the AVP for Enrollment and Student Success, will seek out grant and award opportunities to help student veterans.

Primary Responsibilities

Programming and services.
- Development and implementation of support programming and services.
- Delivery and oversight of workshops, events, tabling, and other on-campus activities.
- Customer support services that align with student success.
- Support day-to-day activities within the VRS .

Student Support.
- Help new student veterans transition into NKU .
- Advance career readiness of student veterans.

Recruitment of new student veterans.
- Visits to college fairs, military bases, and regional recruitment events.
- Development of recruitment and promotional materials.
- Work in collaboration with the Undergraduate Admissions on recruitment opportunities.

Certification in military benefits to assist with financial support.
- Works in collaboration with the Certifying Official.

Oversee VA Work Study students (student support team).

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. No specific major required but military experience with honorable discharge is strongly recommended.

Knowledge around how to help student veterans transition from military to education/civilian life is recommended.

Knowledge of the detailed policies and differences around the numerous veteran educational benefits is recommended.

Any candidate who is offered this position will be required to go through a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
