The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a position of Post-Doctoral Fellow in the general area of Energy, Engines, Emissions with a focus on natural gas utilization. The position focuses on methane and VOC stream quantification, system modeling, and applied research and development of a methane mitigation system. The goal of the research focuses on reducing emissions while offsetting fuel consumption at unconventional natural gas well sites. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension.

Qualifications :

Eligible candidates must hold an earned doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, or a related field at the time of appointment. Doctoral candidates that have defended their thesis/dissertation and have successfully submitted but not yet graduated are also welcomed to apply. Broad expertise in areas of natural gas industry, natural gas engines and their emissions, fugitive gas emissions (methane, ethane, etc.), in-use data collection/acquisition (DAQ) systems, and data processing, modeling, and analyses is required. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive expertise in open source coding and modeling tools – specifically Python and/or MATLAB.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: planning and conducting laboratory experiments with natural gas engines and systems; conducting and leading field data collection campaigns; overseeing graduate and undergraduate students and technicians (of various backgrounds); attending research conferences; identifying and assisting with acquisition of funding from public, private, and governmental sources; searching scientific literature, manufacturer and operator data, and safety standards to select and modify methods and procedures for data collection and system design; overseeing research facilities and personnel; writing and presenting research/study status reports for review and use of the principal investigator; and preparing the results of experimental findings for presentation to colleagues, industry, and the sponsor.
