Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

This position exists to provide support in lab research (cell culture, molecular biology techniques and animal work (not mandatory) and to maintain laboratory supplies and equipment. Specific projects such as: 1) Studying the role of Melanoma differentiation associated gene-9/Syntenin in cancer progression and metastasis development; 2) Analyzing a panel of biomarkers for melanoma metastasis will be assigned; and 3) Studying the therapeutic activity using pre-clinical animal models of novel versions of mda-7/IL-24 and M4, administered by viruses, as pure proteins and by nanoparticles. Project assignments will change as priorities of the laboratory change.

Minimum Hiring Standards

Detailed oriented, highly organized, good math skills, some prior lab experience required. Previous experience in animal models and approaches essential for Project 1. Previous laboratory experience in cell culture and basic cell and molecular biology and biochemical techniques is essential. Must be able to perform standard molecular biology techniques such as RNA and DNA isolation, qPCR, Western blots. Experience in protein expression and isolation also important. Good organizational skills necessary. Must have ability to troubleshoot problems and ability to interpret data. Must interact well with colleagues. Minimal computer skills necessary. Ability to work in a diverse environment required.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Practical experience in diagnostic field preferred.
BS degree in relevant area (life sciences, chemistry, or other science) or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
