Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Arts & Sciences at Appalachian State University invites applications for the Inaugural Director of the online BS Program in Veterinary Technology. We seek a leader to guide the development of a new program to elevate veterinary nurse/technician training by focusing on 1) online development of technical, leadership, communication, management, and critical thinking core competencies; and 2) creating an unparalleled internship network as a foundation for outstanding clinical training. Working with industry leaders, we expect graduates to receive profession-leading career opportunities and compensation packages.

This is a 12-month administrative position with an appointment to begin July 1, 2021. We seek an individual with experience in an academic setting and who has a demonstrated record of building consensus, fostering collaboration, and promoting a diverse and inclusive learning environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop the mission and vision for the Veterinary Technology program.
  • Lead development of an innovative curriculum for the new online degree program in Veterinary Technology.
  • Build an outstanding team of licensed/credentialed veterinary technicians to teach courses and mentor students in the program.
  • Ensure that students obtain high-quality internship experiences in compliance with AVMA accreditation standards.
  • Provide leadership to students, faculty, and staff in the program and work collaboratively with department chairs and program directors from supporting departments and programs.
  • Oversee high-quality academic advisement provided to students.
  • Ensure that the program meets AVMA and SACSCOC accreditation standards.
  • Teach into the Vet Tech curriculum as required.
