Open Rank Position: Learning in Context

The Department of Teaching and Learning of Peabody College invites applications for an open rank, tenure track professor in designing and studying technologies that promote consequential learning in social context. We are open to scholars in a broad range of specialties in technology-mediated learning, including those whose research focuses on public and community engagement, informal learning in community or organizational settings, and/or the design of equitable, just and academically-challenging computational learning environments. We are interested in scholarship that takes place in the context of life-long and life-wide learning, including but not limited to schools, business and non-profit corporations, and community settings.  We seek a colleague who will be committed to advancing critical scholarship of educational practice and working with the increasingly diverse communities of Vanderbilt University and the city of Nashville, Tennessee. 

Additionally, we seek a scholar to participate in and support the Learning Incubator in Vanderbilt Endeavor (LIVE), with a particular focus on community and corporate partnerships that are at the heart of this new, campus-wide initiative. LIVE’s collaborations with partners will strive for discovery through inclusive design and use of computational thinking. These partnerships will not just produce tools that solve current problems of practice but explore deep questions of how to transform technology-mediated work and learning. We seek a scholar with an established research agenda that can produce discoveries and amplify these by partnering with external organizations such as corporations, government agencies, and institutions of formal education to transform practice, capacity and learning through the design of advanced technologies. As with all of our strategic initiatives, we aspire to develop synergies between LIVE and areas of existing intellectual strengths already at Vanderbilt University.

Successful applicants must have a strong record of publication and capacity for external research funding. Additionally, the successful candidate will help lead, initiate, and participate in collaborative research projects, teacher education and/or community partnerships as well as contribute to our undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. These include: Learning, Teaching and Diversity (Ph.D.), Learning and Diversity in Urban Settings (M.Ed.), Learning and Design (M.Ed.), and our teacher credentialing programs. 

We will review applications beginning June 1, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit: a letter of interest, up to three publications (or manuscripts in progress), a current vita and the names of three scholars who will write letters of recommendation.
