Job Summary

 

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) is looking for an Assistant Dean for Student Development and Career Initiatives to lead the LSA Opportunity Hub, reporting directly to the dean. The LSA Opportunity Hub supports liberal arts and sciences students as they develop their professional identities and aspirations and provides students with career coaching and exploration, access to internships, internship funding, and connections to jobs, employers and alums. Students are able to connect what they’re learning in classrooms to purposeful work and meaningful lives. The Assistant Dean for Student Development and Career Initiatives focuses on three primary areas of responsibility: (1) leadership and operational oversight; (2) organizational vision and strategic planning; and (3) stewardship of stakeholder relationships. This work includes oversight of alumni engagement, employer engagement, student coaching and outreach, communications, as well as learning, data, and assessment.

Responsibilities*

 

  • Oversee the portfolio of career programs, workshops, course curriculum, and information sessions that assist students with achieving their career goals
  • Further develop the Opportunity Hub’s strategic plan and short and long-term goals for career engagement for students across all LSA disciplines
  • Lead a high performing, collaborative team of 39 employees; supervise six direct reports
  • Meet and foster relationships with, as well as steward, LSA alumni and donors to the Hub
  • Track and utilize detailed metrics and data related to areas including student utilization, alumni engagement, and employer engagement
  • Initiate and maintain contact with LSA alumni to engage them in Hub activities and to provide opportunities for students
  • Develop and administer the Hub’s budget in a manner consistent with the College’s mission and objectives
  • Effectively use technology, innovation, and collaboration among team members, campus partners, and employers
  • As a representative of LSA, collaborate with other career services operations on campus to share effective practices and maximize partnership opportunities

Required Qualifications*

 

  • Graduate degree, or equivalent education and experience
  • Ten years of directly relevant experience required; previous work experience in a higher education environment
  • Knowledge of trends in internships, employment, the economy, effective career interventions, technology, and industry networks
  • Demonstrated ability to create a positive culture characterized by collaboration and creativity, transparency, trust and credibility, and a focus on well-being
  • A strong, proven commitment to creating and maintaining an organization that is diverse, inclusive, and equitable; high competence collaborating with a variety of diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated history of successful supervisory experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly results-oriented
  • Strong analytical, data, and technology skills

 

Desired Qualifications*

 

  • PhD in related field
  • Background in the liberal arts and/or a commitment to the value of a liberal arts education
  • Background or experience in career services or student services administration
