Responsibilities: The Director of Experiential Learning will coordinate, work collaboratively and build upon existing campus-wide experiential learning initiatives to strengthen and expand opportunities for all Bowie State University students. A primary role of this position will be the development of systems and processes to track and communicate learning goals and outcomes. This position will also help to provide faculty and staff with the knowledge, skills and tools to integrate experiential learning opportunities in curricular and co-curricular programs, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and articulate a cohesive strategy for experiential learning at Bowie State University.
Develop and execute a vision for a comprehensive experiential program that aligns with the University Strategic Plan and in partnership with internal and external partners. Work collaboratively to revise, strengthen, and expand curriculum and co-curricular experiential learning system that offers meaningful experiential experiences for students at Bowie State University and incorporates high impact practices. Facilitate communication and coordination with partner offices, faculty and administrators engaged in experiential learning. Work with campus stakeholders to define metrics for success in student learning goals and project outcomes and to assess programs and generate impact reports annually. Work collaboratively to develop and execute a continuous improvement plan for experiential learning across the campus. Promote experiential learning across the campus. Develop a faculty professional development program in experiential learning in coordination with the Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Seek external funding and strategic partnerships for experiential learning. Serve on committees and task force that support the experiential learning needs for the University. Staying abreast of current experiential learning activities and research by regularly attending conferences related to experiential learning. Develop and implement pertinent policies related to experiential learning for approval through the University’s shared governance and policy approval processes. Work with administrative staff to ensure efficient and effective record plan for all experiential learning programs across campus.
Qualifications: An earned doctorate by time of appointment is required. Minimum three (3) years of experience required. Experience teaching at the university level. Experience teaching in an experiential learning program. Experience in curriculum design preferred. Experience leading change in academic programming. Experience leading faculty development workshops, seminars, and/or initiatives. Experience working on a university-wide experiential learning initiative. Experience with program-level student learning outcomes assessment for continuous improvement. Knowledge of and experience applying essential principles of experiential learning in higher education. Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively across a range of stakeholders, including faculty members, staff, administrators, students and external agencies. Evidence of expertise in written, spoken and/or visual communications. Evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative atmosphere. Evidence of the ability to design, develop and lead university-wide professional development activities. Must pass a Criminal Background check. This is a non-union position.
SALARY: $85,106-$92,000 RANGE: IV
