The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History seeks applications for a 50% Visiting Assistant Professor of Ceramics for the 2021-22 academic year.  The position receives full benefits.  The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester in The University of Iowa School of Art & Art History, Studio Art Division.   

Required Qualifications:  

The applicant will have received an MFA with a concentration in ceramics in hand by the start date (or the equivalent combination of education and experience), evidence of a national or international exhibition record, and will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to teach introductory wheel throwing
  • Advanced proficiency in multiple fabrication methods related to contemporary ceramic art
  • Ability to teach introductory slip casting
  • Ability to mentor advanced undergraduate and graduate students in professional development and professional networking 

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • University level teaching experience
  • Experience working with galleries and curators in professional relationships
  • Demonstrated knowledge of topics in contemporary art discourse
