Location
Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.
Department Information
With an enrollment of over 1000 students, The Kennesaw State University School of Art and Design provides a rigorous education, offering a BFA degree in Art (concentrations in Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Graphic Communications, Illustration, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, Sequential Art, or Sculpture), a BFA in Digital Animation, and a BAT in Apparel Textiles Technology.
Our facilities provide students with state-of-the-art resources. The new space located at Chastain Pointe houses four large drawing and painting studios and an expansive printmaking area. 5 computer studios in the Visual Arts Building provide industry standard technology for our applied arts disciplines of Graphic Communications, Digital Animation, Illustration and Sequential Art. The Textiles facilities are on the Marietta campus.
Job Summary
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track, Limited Term Assistant Professor of Graphic Communications faculty position, beginning August 1, 2021.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in graphic design; familiarity with design, typography, print and package design is expected. The applicant should possess proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud on Mac OS platform. Additionally, candidates with in depth experience and working knowledge in one or more of the following areas in order to broaden current course offerings beyond a standard graphic design curriculum is desired: UI/UX design, responsive web design; mobile application development, mobile interface design; 2D/3D animation, motion graphics; the applicant must demonstrate knowledge of contemporary design practice, theory and history.
This candidate will teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Required Qualifications
- A terminal degree with an emphasis in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Communication Design, or equivalent degree.
- Three years of teaching experience in graphic design at the university or college level.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in graphic design; familiarity with design, typography, and digital imaging is expected. The applicant will possess proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud on Mac OS platform. Additionally, the applicant will demonstrate knowledge of contemporary design practice, theory and history and evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level and an active exhibition record or client projects. Successful applicants will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and will be able to work well with a diverse student body, faculty, staff.
- Online teaching experience necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of teaching experience in graphic design at the university or college level.
- Professional practice experience in the field of design with emphasis in preferred teaching areas of typography and package design.
- Strong core competencies in design practice, technology, and software (Adobe CC), and experience developing client-based work or a research practice of comparable extent
- Evidence of teaching experience at the undergraduate level
- Knowledge and understanding of computer lab management
