The Department of Medicine seeks aResearch Data Analystto help conduct analysis of data for the benefit of multiple studies linked to the Asthma and COPD Precision Medicine Centers of Excellence (PMCOE). Analysis typically will be handled by automated scripts (built by the data analyst) due to the scale and complexity of the tasks. Will prepare reports from preliminary analysis for publications and presentations with the PMCOE principal investigators and other study team members.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, construct, and clean datasets that provide insight into open asthma/COPD-related research questions. Use the Precision Medicine Analytics Platform (PMAP) to acquire data and be a quality control specialist for data integrity.
  • Design strategies and procedures to maintain an ever-growing repository of high quality research data.
  • Analyze data and disseminate analytic findings; perform statistical calculations and author sections of reports and grant proposals under the mentorship of senior investigators. Craft tables and graphs in publication-quality form, scientific abstracts, and methods sections of manuscripts.
  • Provide research design leadership to study investigators and consultants; assist in the development of questionnaires by making recommendations on data collection procedures and database structures.
  • Attend regular scientific meetings.
  • Mentor and advise students and research staff on data analysis, analysis strategies, use of PMAP, and the research database.
  • Serve as a liaison between the asthma/COPD research team and the broader JHU precision medicine ecosystem.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in related subject area (i.e., statistics, computer science, machine learning)
  • Three years of related professional experience. Additional education (Master’s level) may substitute for some required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum experience required for the respective job.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in statistical analysis, database management, and data analysis including longitudinal analysis
  • Basic SQL skills
  • Knowledge of R, STATA, and Python
  • MS Access, Excel, Word
  • Know how to navigate the SAFE desktop environment
  • Experience using PMAP tools such as like Crunchr and Leaf

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or laboratory environment.

Working Conditions:

This position will be required to work remotely immediately and as soon as we can resume activities on-site at the Bayview campus will perform duties through a hybrid of teleworking and in-office time. Candidate will have access to a personal laptop and biostatistic packages, join to weekly meetings remotely until we resume on-site work activities, when limited travel may be required to attend meetings at other JHU buildings.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
