Assistant Professor, Cultural Anthropology

The Department of Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology.

We seek a cultural anthropologist to teach sections of cultural anthropology, ethnographic methods, and upper-level undergraduate courses based on the candidate’s area of specialization. We have a strong preference for a regional focus on Latin or South America. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching involves one or more of the following areas of scholarship: the anthropology of food and subsistence, economic anthropology, environmental anthropology, applied anthropology, and ethnographic methods. The successful candidate should be committed to engaged undergraduate research, integrating research and teaching, inclusive teaching pedagogies, and developing student skills in critical thinking. The salary range for this position is $56,000- $58,000. The appointment will begin on August 1, 2021. Candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate courses in cultural anthropology and be willing to participate in departmental activities upon arrival. Candidates must have Ph.D. in hand at the time of application.

Qualifications :
The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Anthropology. Successful candidates should also demonstrate evidence of expertise and research productivity in one or more of the following areas (in no particular order of preference): subsistence studies, food and culture, environmental anthropology, economic anthropology, applied anthropology, ethnographic research methods, and Latin or South American studies. Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including face-to-face instruction, online instruction, and experiential learning. Candidates should also be willing to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC’s Strategic Plan, including a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.
