Position Summary:

The School of Human Ecology's Child Development Lab (CDL) is a child development and early learning program for community children and also a teaching and research laboratory for University students, faculty and staff. We offer year round programs for children ages 6 weeks-5 years. We are a community partner with the Madison Metropolitan School District to provide 4K programming with licensed teachers. We have a tripartite mission: (1) to provide UW students with carefully supervised training opportunities associated with their course of study; (2) to provide a population and a setting in which UW faculty and students can conduct research on issues related to child development, early learning, family studies and other related areas; and (3) to engage in outreach activities, such as hosting professionals and scholars from around the world, serving on committees, providing continuing education to other teachers in the community and helping organize community service projects. The Child Development Lab has provided excellence in early childhood education, research, and teacher training for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and college students since its inception in 1926.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

B.S., Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or closely related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 Years of experience working with children (6 wks.-5 years) and working with infants, toddlers, and preschool/4K in a group/early childhood setting preferred.
- 1 or more year's supervisory experience of other adults.
- Embodiment of growth and service mindsets
- Ability to work effectively within a diverse community
- Ability to demonstrate cultural literacy and commitment to creating an inclusive working and learning environment

License or Certificate:

A current Department of Public Instruction 4K teaching license from the State of Wisconsin that includes Pre-K certification on the license preferred.
Minimum Wisconsin Registry level 12 required within 6 months of hire date. Wisconsin Registry level 14 or above preferred.

Additional Information:

The FTE for the position could fluctuate over time depending upon the needs of the CDL.

Must pass a yearly Criminal Background Check and Caregiver Background Check and fingerprinting will be performed. A TB test and health examination is required not more than 12 months prior to or 30 days after the first day of employment. A CPR certificate (including training in infant and child CPR, and training in AED) must be on file within 6 months of the first day of work. Must have minimum 10 hours of training approved by DCF in infant and toddler care. Training in Shaken Baby syndrome, SIDS and in Mandated Reporting of Child Abuse are required. This training can be provided by CDL staff during first week of employment.

Candidates should be able to keep up with the physical demands of the job including getting up and down from the floor on a continuous daily basis; sitting on small chairs 12 inches off the floor; lifting children up to 35 pounds; bending to change diapers or wipe low tables and floor spills; reaching for containers from upper shelves; moving with children during large motor and other activities several times each day.

Must be reliable in reporting to scheduled work shifts and be able to mentally keep track of multiple activities occurring at the same time.
