Reporting to the AVP, the Executive Director of Housing and Lodging Services is responsible for the coordination and administration of all Syracuse University’s Housing, Meal Plan and ID Card services as well as the Minnowbrook Conference Center and Syracuse University Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center. Participation in the planning and implementation of the housing master plan, as well as the Syracuse University lodging, events and conference services strategies. The goal is to provide best in class services to students, staff, faculty, clients, guests and visitors to the Syracuse University campus.

Is a vital member of Auxiliary Services with a primary focus on managing, developing and enhancing the residential living and lodging experience. Increase revenue and overall profitability. Residential Housing is currently comprised of north and south campus residence halls and apartments with over 8,000 beds and over 4,000 rooms. Minnowbrook Conference Center is comprised of 33 rooms, 56 overnight guests and multiple conferencing and meeting room space. The Syracuse University Sheraton is comprised of 235 rooms, two restaurants and a coffee shop, and capacity of 416 in conference and meeting room space.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree preferred and seven years of increasingly responsible, or equivalent combination of education and responsibilities in housing, residence life, and facilities management experience. Minimum of five years of Proven Leadership expertise.

Full P&L accountability and higher education housing and dining experience is desirable. Effective communication and inter-personal relations skills. Effective organizational and planning skills. Effective leadership and supervisory skills. Ability to work a varied schedule to meet operational needs. Must be forward thinking, entrepreneurial and proactive.

Job Specific Qualifications

Excellent leadership and collaboration skills. Excellent organizational skills with precise attention to detail required and the highest quality standards. Strong communication skills required, including oral, written and listening skills. Demonstrable good judgment and the ability to work under pressure. Must be a well-organized, high energy individual with excellent customer service skills. Must be able to set priorities, make decisions and work independently and as part of a team. Proven ability to develop positive and productive working relationships across divisions. Experience with customer service standards and procedures. Knowledge of P&L accountability is desirable. Ability to work a varied schedule to meet operational needs. Must be forward thinking, entrepreneurial and proactive. Experience within a college and university setting.

Responsibilities

Provide executive oversight of the Minnowbrook Conference Center, the Syracuse University Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center, and Drumlins Country Club Provide leadership, supervise, support and overall guidance to a staff of exempt and non-exempt staff in the Housing, Meal Plan and ID Card Services department. Establish departmental goals and coordinate daily activity to provide outstanding customer service to students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the University. Anticipate and adjust departmental goals based on student needs.

Collaborate with the Office of Student Living, Admissions, Student Experience, Academic Affairs, Campus Facilities, Department of Public Safety, ITS, Hospitality Services and Auxiliary Services to plan residential housing needs for current and incoming students. This includes collaboration to plan the logistics for opening and closing of the residence halls. Manage communication with students and families. Anticipate and plan for future housing needs and occupancy through data analysis. Oversee the coordination of housing for camps, conferences and other guests during the non-academic year.

Participate and assist in planning current and future housing facility and site work renovations. The planning is designed to enhance the residential experience including providing cutting edge technology and comfortable living space. Collaborate with Facilities and Campus Planning Design and Construction to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable residential experience.

Design and implement training programs to develop employee skills that will assist them in providing quality service to the community. Keep abreast of all current developments in technology and human resources related to the overall goals. Promotes the professional growth and development of the entire team. Schedule trainings for all employees (for example, customer service skills training).

Collaborate with Food Services to manage registration and communication about meal plans. Includes oversight of the Odyssey and GET systems and management and analysis of student fund balances on campus cards. Recommend system enhancements and program offerings to meet the changing needs of students.

Keep up to date on emerging industry trends and devise plans to take advantage of evolving technologies and opportunities. Participate in professional associations such as, NACAS and ACUHO -I to identify service enhancements and develop a network of business colleagues.

Continually investigate process improvements and technological advances designed to streamline operations and provide students easy to navigate solutions that enhance the residential student experience.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Auxiliary Services.
