Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is hiring a EHS Programs Manager to join the Campus Safety and Security team. Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.

The EHS Programs Manager provides occupational safety and environmental compliance support to the Prescott Campus. The EHS Programs Manager supports Federal, State and local regulatory safety compliance of all employees and leads the safety culture effort for the campus. The EHS Programs Manager also provides Emergency Management support to EHS-related emergencies on the main campus and at the Flight Training Center.

Job Functions:

Occupational Safety -

  • Administer the Occupational Safety Program that ensures that all employees work in an environment free from hazards.

  • Conduct safety training for all new hires, refresher training for employees in specific at risk positions, and provide training support for training expert subject matter consultants.

  • Conduct safety inspections and audits of all Prescott ERAU-owned properties. Develop new safety policies and review/audit existing safety policies.

  • Develop safety manuals for specific regulatory requirements.

  • Investigate all occupational accidents, write the investigation report, and implement safety corrections to prevent future accidents.

  • Investigate all safety concerns including indoor air quality, ergonomics, mechanical hazards, trip hazards, etc. Work with campus departments such as facilities or campus safety to correct know issues. Work with contractors for specialized services. Review all reported concerns from the online incident form.

  • Manage the MSDSOnline (Safety Data Sheet) database and all requirements of the GHS SDS Hazard Communication standard.

  • Maintain certification as Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) Site Supervisor as specified by OSHA 29CFR1910.120.

  • Administer the Radiation Safety Program. Maintain State registration of all radioactive sources. Audit radiation sources. Guide compliance with all Arizona Department of Health Statutes and Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations.

  • Administer the Laser Safety Program. Audit all laser sources that are Class 3b and 4. Investigate all accidents/incidents associated with any class of laser.

  • Maintain access to required training records.

Environmental Compliance -

  • Administer and enforce environmental regulations for Prescott ERAU properties. These may include the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation & Recovery Act, Asbestos/Lead Abatement, and Safe Drinking Water Act.

  • Support the Prescott Campus’ interests during environmental clean-up operations, such as spills of petroleum products. Manage contamination sites that have not received a No Further Action status. Support to the University on all land investigations where contamination is suspected. Coordinate the efforts of environmental contractor(s) as appropriate.

  • Support all Hazardous Waste operations for all Embry-Riddle Prescott properties in accordance with federal, state and local regulations, which includes: Maintain all waste manifests; Manage waste contracts and schedule all waste services; Maintain compliance with AZDOT/DOT regulations for the safe transportation of Prescott ERAU hazardous waste; Administer training to all employees working with hazardous waste; Perform waste determination surveys of all potential waste; Maintain Prescott-specific portions of the Hazardous Waste Manual.

  • Maintain Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure Plans as appropriate.

  • Provide training to all employees about specific environmental regulations.

  • Maintain access to required training records.

  • Bachelor’s degree. Area of study: Safety Sciences, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Industrial Engineering or closely related field and up to 3 years related professional work experience.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to gather information and implement requirements of ADA, ADEQ, OSHA, etc.

  • Analytical skills with an in depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Microsoft operating systems, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and Internet end-user applications.

  • Ability to identify the use of meters such as noise dosimeters, radiological detectors, Organic Vapor Analyzers, multi-gas meters, Photoionization Detectors, etc.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Safety Sciences, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Industrial Engineering or closely related field.

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

  • OSHA training certificates.

  • Incident Command System (ICS) or National Incident Management System (NIMS) training certificates.
