The Department of Anthropology at Appalachian State University seeks candidates for a one-year non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor in sociocultural anthropology.

Description of the Department or Unit

The Department of Anthropology at Appalachian State University has 13 tenure-track faculty and nearly 200 majors. After nearly five years of growth and program building, it is now the largest undergraduate-only anthropology department in the United States. Please click here to learn more.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful hire will teach a 4/4 load that includes courses for both General Education and for the B.S. and B.A. programs of study in the major. Courses will include teaching two general education courses (Gender, Race, and Class and Understanding Culture), core intro course for the major (Cultural Anthropology), and a course based upon their research expertise.

As a part of the COVID -19 response, Appalachian State University is employing flexible teaching formats to address academic needs and to comply with local, state, and federal public health regulations or orders.
