Job Description:

MCLA is accepting applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer opening to provide quality care for student-athletes, including sport preventive measures, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation.

Detailed Statement of Duties:

Assistant Athletic Trainer

  • Directly responsible for individual compliance to NCAA and operating policies within the department and College
  • Care for and provide prevention, assessment, referral, treatment and rehabilitation for all athletic injuries and work with the team Physician and other Health Care professionals, with the goal of providing continuity of care for students-athletes under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Maintain and input assigned student-athlete's injury information and updates to SportsWare
  • Maintain communication with students, coaches, and physicians regarding the care and prevention of athletic injuries
  • Assist with maintaining and inventorying supplies and equipment
  • Provide athletic training coverage for all traditional season sport practices and competitions as appointed by the Director of Athletics and in consultation from the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Work in conjunction with the Strength and Conditioning coach on student-athlete return to activity
  • Potential to be assigned to serve as a preceptor and clinical site for athletic training major students when applicable
  • Responsible for assigned travel to regular season away contests and post season competition as appointed by the Director of Athletics and in consultation from the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Responsible for implementing and running the 360 Proof alcohol education program

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Support mission and vision of athletic department
  • Complete all department, College and conference trainings
  • Attend mandatory department staff meetings and department events
  • Attend/participate in mandatory conference calls/meetings/voting, etc.
  • Complete reports, special projects, and other duties at the request of the Director of Athletics
  • Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with department, institutional and conference policies and procedures and adhere to the rules and regulations of athletic governance organizations of which the institution is a member
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff, student-athletes, and external constituents through (a) a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, (b) respect for the competencies of others, and (c) appropriate conflict resolution behavior

Any staff member who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedure and in accordance with the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, and a staff member may be suspended without pay or terminated if the coach is found to be involved in deliberate and serious violations of NCAA regulations.


  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.
  • National Athletic Trainers Association (N.A.T.A.) Certifications
  • Massachusetts State License (Board of Registration of Allied Health Professions) or Eligible
  • Three to five years of Collegiate Athletic Training or related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Athletic Training Program principles and practices
  • An awareness of higher education principles, practices and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to express self in written and oral communication
  • Ability to work effectively with professional, non-professional, and student personnel
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate level of initiative

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (10-month Aug-May), benefits-eligible, position in the APA bargaining unit. Salary is $40,000 to $45,000.
