The History Department at the University of Houston seeks to appoint a colleague for a tenure-track position as an Associate Professor specializing in the history of Colonial and Modern India, especially the history of medicine, environment and disease . The candidate should have ten years of teaching experience, and offer introductory, upper level and graduate courses not only on the history of medicine in Colonial and Modern India, but also on Imperialism and Decolonization, Global Empires, and Forensic science in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The candidate's scholarly potential should be reflective of receiving a number of pre- and-post-doctoral dissertation fellowships. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in the History of Medicine. They should have a professional dedication to teaching and to pursuing an active research agenda. A strong record of publications, including monographs, journal articles, and book chapters are required for the appointment to the position. Additionally, participation in departmental programs, service and governance are expected. The successful candidate will join a cohort of historians of medicine dedicated to excellence in teaching and scholarship in areas such as, borderlands, empire, colonial/postcolonial medicine in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, environmental, race and ethnicity, gender, women, family as well as transnational historians of energy, labor, immigration, revolution and technology.
