Financial Aid Spec I, Financial Aid
The Financial Aid Administration invites applications for a Financial Aid Spec I to join their team on campus. The individual assigned to this position within the University of Montana (UM) Financial Aid Department evaluate files, which includes verification of applicant data, analyzing need, awarding or revising aid and using professional judgment to identify discrepant information.
This role will assume responsibility for advising students and parents about the process of applying for financial aid. They will also assist with fund reconciliation and reviewing discrepancy reports. It is expected that the incumbent be responsible for providing guidance to prospective financial aid applicants in an effort to help them better understand aid differences and requirements. This position will assist these financial aid applicants in determining the best type(s) of aid available to them.
This position requires incumbent to develop a working knowledge of Federal and State aid regulations and UM policies and procedures; Banner, COD, NSLDS, and Microsoft Office; and become familiar with Cyberbear, UM Financial Aid website, FAFSA.gov, and studentaid.gov to the degree of being able to assist a student with navigating through them.
- Must be able to understand and effectively communicate complex policies to customers and staff
- Must have good mathematic/accounting skills and have great attention to detail
- Must have strong communication skills and be able to have consistently positive interpersonal interactions with students, families, agency representatives, faculty and staff
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality when working with proprietary information
- Must be able to adjust quickly to changing job demands
- Must be comfortable using multiple software/database applications
- Must be able to be granted access to federal aid databases (meaning the person in this role cannot be in default on any federal loans)
Minimum Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and at least (1) year of financial aid experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year.

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
