New Mexico State University Alamogordo is seeking an Assistant Professor to Professor of Communication, full-time, 9-month, tenure track. Provide 30-credit hours per academic year (15-cr per fall and spring semesters) of classroom instruction in the following courses: Introduction to Communication (COMM 1115G); Public Speaking (COMM 1130G) and other first- and second-year communication courses. Course load may also include First Year Experience (FYEX 1110).  Teaching assignments may include weekdays, weekends, evenings, online, hybrid and off-campus. Develop, revise, and update curriculum in collaboration with department, college, and university faculty according to established curriculum procedures. Will develop and teach online courses. Instruct, support, advise and provide timely feedback to student in accordance with NMSU-A policy and procedures. Professional and public service expected. Will participate and serve on division and college committees, program advisory councils, task forces and working groups. Must maintain professional and academic competence and participate in professional development activities. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Communication Studies, Communication, Speech, or Speech Communication or a related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of innovative, creative teaching and learning methodologies.
  • Ability to teach courses in more than one subject area.
  • Experience with online course development and delivery in accordance with Quality Matters standards.
  • Experience with course and program assessment.
  • Experience working with diverse groups.
  • Community college teaching experience.

 

Successful candidates must have a philosophy which supports the goal of success for all students through hands-on learning experiences and strong faculty involvement.  Finalists will be asked to document teaching effectiveness with relevant material and to present a teaching demonstration.
