New Mexico State University Alamogordo is seeking an Instructor to Assistant Professor of Mathematics, full-time, 9-month, tenure track. Provide 30-credit hours per academic year (15-cr per fall and spring semesters) of classroom instruction in the following Math subjects: College Algebra; Statistics; Calculus for Biological & Management Sciences; Trigonometry; Calculus (all levels), and other Math courses that may be revised or developed. Will develop online courses based on Quality Matters Standards and develop teaching materials, such as PowerPoint lectures and labs, as needed. In addition to normal class hours, may teach weekends, evenings, virtual, online classes, and off-campus as assigned. Advise students as needed; Participate in professional development activities, various committee assignments, local community service, and conduct on-going assessment of courses. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in mathematics, engineering, or a closely related field. Degree must be awarded by the date of hire.
  • Ability to teach to a diverse student body.
  • Ability to work effectively with other faculty members and administration.
  • Understanding of the community college mission, function, and philosophy.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn online teaching techniques.
  • Interest and willingness to work with the community.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years teaching experience at the higher education level.
  • Demonstrate experience with student learning assessment and program assessment.
  • Ability and qualifications to teach mathematics classes.
  • Relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience with online course development.

 

Successful candidates must have a philosophy which supports the goal of success for all students through hands-on learning experiences and strong faculty involvement.  Finalists will be asked to document teaching effectiveness with relevant material and to present a teaching demonstration.
