Complex Care Pediatrician

Pediatric Complex Care, Department of Pediatrics

University of Utah School of Medicine

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Complex Care at the University of Utah seeks a full-time, academic Complex Care Pediatrician to join our clinical team of experienced pediatric generalists and subspecialists in caring for children with medical complexity (CMC).  The Complex Care Pediatrician will gain expertise in the clinical care of CMC and their families in an integrated, academic healthcare system.  This position will develop the Complex Care Pediatrician as a strong clinician, scholar, educator and leader in complex care, through an individualized curriculum of clinical, education, research, quality and/or advocacy experiences. The Complex Care Pediatrician will engage in clinical care and complete a 2-year scholarly project that aligns with their career goals.

The Complex Care Pediatrician will have a longitudinal clinical experience in our Comprehensive Care Program, caring continuously for a cohort of CMC and their families, with the mentorship and sponsorship of faculty in our Division of Complex Care and our Department of Pediatrics. This physician will participate in Complex Spine/Surgery, Complex Spasticity, Trach-Vent, and Palliative Care Programs, which are integrated into the experience of complex care.  Inpatient consultations at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital allow for longitudinal experiences across the continuum.  Depending on the incumbent’s area of interest, additional clinical roles are available: 1) pediatric long-term, acute care (LTAC) for children with technology-dependencies (including post-NICU chronic lung disease care) in community-based specialty hospital; 2) pediatric care in a local skilled nursing facility; 3) Cerebral Palsy Program at Shriners Hospital; 4) longitudinal care with Pediatric Palliative Care/Homecare/Hospice.

The Complex Care Pediatrician will participate in Intermountain Healthcare Delivery Institute’s Advanced Training Program (an in-depth course that prepares healthcare professionals to conduct state-of-the-art quality improvement programs), and will complete a scholarly project, presentation, and publication within the first 2 years.

Qualified candidates must be Board Qualified/Board Certified in General Pediatrics.  Preference will be given to those with experience in the care of children with complex chronic conditions and disabilities, or other comparable training and experience.  The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment as a Visiting Instructor, and will have the opportunity for promotion to a career-line or tenure-line position upon completion of the Program.
