Job Description

The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology in the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech has an open 12-month research faculty position that is eligible for tenure-track. The department seeks an early career clinical pathologist for a mentored research appointment prior to initiating the tenure clock This position involves research and diagnostic clinical pathology. Interest in research in the following areas is especially sought: immunology, toxicology, physiology, metabolism, cell biology, bioinformatics that can lead to innovative assay development in oncology, endocrinology, and comparable areas. Competitive startup package will include lab space, equipment and personnel support as appropriate for the candidate’s research background. Many collaborative opportunities exist in the areas of oncology, neurology, cardiovascular and translational topics through the Fralin Life Sciences Institute, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center at Virginia Tech.

Instructional responsibilities in the DVM professional program will occur after initiating tenure track and include classroom instruction of pathology topics and during student clinical training times. Instruction in the graduate and resident level courses, as well as, mentoring and training of pathology residents and Ph.D. students is essential.

Required Qualifications

- DVM or equivalent
- Diplomate of ACVP or ECVP (or board eligible)
- Ph.D. in biology, immunology, toxicology, or related field

- Research experience in immunology, toxicology, and/or physiology
