Post-doctoral Fellowships – Microbiology & Immunology
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology, at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting for a junior postdoctoral researcher to work on NIH funded projects to evaluate universal coronavirus and/or universal influenza vaccine candidates in pre-clinical animal models. The candidate should have several years of specific expertise in mouse immunology or vaccinology, with specific experience in cell phenotyping using flow cytometry, and an interest in the pathogenesis of respiratory viruses.
The position is available immediately, with some flexibility. We are looking for an organized, enthusiastic and motivated new PhD graduate, or postdoc with up to 2 years of experience. A PhD in immunology or vaccinology or closely related area is required. Several years hands-on experience working with mice is essential, as is experience with flow cytometry and cell phenotyping. Experience with other cellular and humoral immunological assays will be an advantage. Molecular biology skills, and expertise in the generation of and purification of recombinant protein/mAbs will also be beneficial.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead their project, support and contribute to ongoing research projects, to provide training and supervision to more junior colleagues (BSc and MSc students, technicians and PhD students), to generate and prepare data for presentation and/or publication, and to work in a highly organized, professional and collaborative manner, both with internal and external collaborators. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required (English fluency-verbal and written).
