The Veteran Student Success Center is accepting applications for a part-time, Administrative Assistant. This position will work less than 28 hours per week. Under general supervision of the Assistant Director for Veterans Services, this position will perform a variety of administrative functions as assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support services, including but not limited to, filing and purging records, processing incoming and outgoing mail, managing the front office.
  • Provide assistance to prospective students and parents with general inquiries about Veteran educational benefits via phone, email, or in person.
  • Assist with reporting of student enrollment information at the beginning of each term and reviewing schedule adjustments throughout the semester.
  • Assist with monitoring attendance, grades, and academic progress.
  • Assist with organization of veteran/student-related files, while maintaining maximum confidentiality by adhering to FERPA regulations.
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations.
  • Ability to interpret federal, state and University regulations governing the Veterans Affairs program.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


SKILLS

  • The ability to learn and follow complex procedures and detailed policies is required.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use computerized management information systems (databases) are required.
  • The ability to learn and follow complex procedures and detailed policies is required.
  • Considerable data entry work is required. The position requires extended periods of time at a computer station and extensive utilization of information displayed on a computer monitor.


MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree or a minimum of three years equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of VA benefits or state and/or federal programs and regulations.
  • Experience working with military service members.
  • Understanding of the needs of first time and non-traditional students
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Must be skilled in Microsoft Office, filing system and proper documentation of records.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under moderate to heavy levels of stress imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads and student/public contact.
