K-12 STEM Programs Manager
Reporting to the Informal STEM Programs Director, the Informal STEM Programs Manager is responsible for supporting Science Discovery's out-of-school-time STEM programs, including in-person and virtual programs such as summer camps, after-school programs and community outreach programs. Specific position responsibilities include: scheduling K-12 summer camps and after-school classes; recruiting, selecting, and training instructors and teaching assistants; coordinating program logistics, including parking, room and vehicle reservations, permits, ﬁeld trip logistics, etc.; managing teen volunteers; and assisting with day-to-day STEM programming needs throughout the school year. Additionally, the position supports the planning and implementation of community outreach programs designed to educate and excite public audiences about current CU science.

Who We Are
CU Science Discovery is a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education outreach organization housed in the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Science Discovery collaborates with CU faculty, research groups, institutes and students to develop experiential STEM education programs for K-12 students, teachers and the general public. Our mission is to increase literacy in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by providing hands-on, inquiry-based experiences that engage students and teachers in the scientific process. Science Discovery capitalizes on CU-Boulder’s scientific resources, facilities, and expertise to excite students about STEM, expose them to a variety of STEM careers, and inspire a future generation of scientists and engineers.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The Informal STEM Programs Manager assists with the development and implementation of CU Science Discovery’s out-of-school-time STEM programs, under the direction and supervision of the Informal STEM Programs Director.
Support the development and implementation of Science Discovery’s out-of-school-time K-12 STEM programs, including summer camps, afterschool and homeschool programs.
- Assist in developing the out-of-school-time STEM program schedule, including identifying age-appropriate class topics and curricula.
- Reserve appropriate classroom and laboratory spaces on campus.
- Coordinate Instructor, TA, Volunteer and summer support staff application, interview, selection and scheduling processes.
- Manage summer camp logistics, including field trip reservations, Parking and Transportation logistics and permit application procedures (CU fields, OSMP, etc.).
- Update and maintain online registration system, including uploading summer program data on an annual basis.
- Assist Informal STEM Programs Director with Instructor, Teaching Assistant and high school Volunteer trainings.
- Manage teen Volunteer program (recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, etc.).
- Communicate program information to area families and schools.
- Collaborate with Science Discovery colleagues to manage class curricula, materials and supplies.
- Communicate with key community partners, including school districts, homeschool organizations and public libraries, to organize, promote and implement after-school and day-off programs throughout the school year.
Support the Science Discovery community outreach programming throughout the school year
- Collaborate with Science Discovery and CU Boulder colleagues, student instructors and community partners to hold community outreach programs and events (e.g., STEAM Saturday events at public libraries, Family Engineering Day, etc.) that connect underserved audiences to CU science and scientists.
- Communicate with key community stakeholders to coordinate Science Discovery's involvement in community outreach events.
- Recruit, train and manage student employees and volunteers to represent Science Discovery at community outreach events.
What You Should Know
The position requires full-time work during the summer months (May-early August).
What We Can Offer
- The hiring salary is $46,000-$50,000.
- Relocation bonus available if not local.

What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering math) field, education or a related field.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in science or STEM education.
What You Will Need
- Verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to synthesize and communicate information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to initiate, track and complete projects independently.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Organizational skills and ability to complete tasks independently and within deadlines.
- Capable of designing engaging hands-on STEM programming for a range of ages.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with campus and community partners.
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
What We Would Like You To Have
- Master’s degree in STEM, education or a related field.
- Experience coordinating educational programs and/or community outreach activities.
- Previous experience designing and running informal K-12 STEM education programs during out-of-school-time.
- Knowledge of research-based best practices in STEM teaching and learning and out-of-school-time programming.
- Four or more years of experience working in formal or informal education.
- Experience working in or with K-12 schools.
