Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Assistant Director of Centro Hispano promotes student success through the day-to-day management of the MI CASA Mentoring Program and related educational programming aligned with the mission of Centro Hispano. Primary responsibility includes the design, development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation of educational events delivered through the MI CASA Mentoring Program and related programing within Centro Hispano.
The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Centro Hispano and supports Centro Hispano’s mission. Particular attention is given to culturally appropriate strategies for increased college access and retention of Latinx first-generation college students, including engagement with local public schools and pre-college advising, beyond the scope of efforts led by the Office of Admissions.
The Assistant Director supervises Graduate Students and undergraduate students employed as support-staff for MI CASA .
Additionally, the Assistant Director collaborates with the Director to support all Centro Hispano personnel, including Program Coordinator, Temporary Employees, and student-employees.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Masters’ degree in Higher Education, Hispanic/Latin American
Studies, or a closely related field
- Three years’ experience related to cultural center/facility
program operations, university program leadership, OR experience
serving undergraduate students.
- Fluency in spoken Spanish
- A demonstrated record of working with diverse and varied groups
including services focused on racial/ethnic minorities and other
historically underrepresented groups
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Emotional intelligence, strong interpersonal and communication
skills, and a track record of advocacy and program initiation
strongly preferred.
- Fluency in written Spanish and Spanish/English interpretation
skills are preferred.
