Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and repair of all phases of HVAC ; refrigeration; condenser, chill water, and hot water piping, pumps, and associated controls. This position will be required to use electronic devices such as computers, tablets, and smart phones. This position may assist with snow, ice and/or debris removal under the direction of a supervisor. This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the university and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the university may be operating on an alternate schedule.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
Higher education and/or experience in facilities maintenance or graduation from HVAC /Refrigeration trade school.
Graduated from a Certified HVAC Program
Strongly desire working knowledge of electrical, refrigeration, heating, air conditioning ventilation, pneumatic and electric controls; familiarity with Building Management Systems ( BMS ), particularly in Direct Digital Control ( DDC ); and ability to operate personal computer based software to check building and equipment functions, identify trends, and generate user programs to accomplish specific requirements.
