Faculty Credentialing & Compensation Specialist

General Description: The Faculty Credentialing and Compensation Specialist role supports the recruitment, hiring and retention of faculty in compliance with VCCS and NOVA policies and procedures and with SACS accreditation standards. The Faculty Credentialing and Compensation Specialist is responsible for the evaluation of faculty teaching, administrative, and professional positions to determine qualifications and rank eligibility. This position is responsible for reviewing and processing overloads, workload exceptions, reassigned time, promotion reviews, multi-year recommendations and additional compensation requests in various formats for faculty members. The position is also tasked with researching and troubleshooting adjunct faculty pay, workload and contract concerns, and assists with special projects, audits, and other activities.

The Faculty Credentialing and Compensation Specialist will regularly review, recommend, and modify business processes as needed to maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of those processes. The Credential Specialist will develop working relationships with Division personnel to address Division needs and develop working relationships with external businesses and agencies.

Knowledge: Knowledge of Commonwealth and College’s human resource policies and procedures. Knowledge of SACS accreditation requirements and guidelines. Knowledge of principles and procedures in the recruitment, selection and retention of employees. Knowledge of principles and procedures for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Knowledge of administrative procedures and systems; including managing files and records and ensuring appropriate confidentiality in regard to personnel information. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources.

Skills: Communication comprehension skills to understand and interpret written policies and procedures. Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats as appropriately needed for the audience. Active listening skills in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand others’ points of view, and asking appropriate questions. Use critical thinking skills by identifying and determining alternative solutions and conclusions/approaches to problems. Decision-making skills that considers relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate action to take.

Abilities: Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Ability to recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and appropriately communicate the issue. The ability to analyze and provide recommendations to changes or modifications to existing procedures and processes. Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time. Ability to compile, categorize, calculate, audit and verify human resources information and data. Ability to prioritize and management multiple tasks and work in fast-paced environment; ability to work with interruptions. Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion and confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to maintain automated databases, perform automated report management, and produce automated reports.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Business, Human Resources or related field or a combination of related education, experience and training. Experience in Human Resources. Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Resources or similar field. Considerable experience in Human Resources, in academic administration, and/or evaluating credentials for teaching. Expert level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Experience with Microsoft Teams.
