The salary range for 2020-2021 is $62,86-$88,192 for a 248-day Temporary Fixed-Term contract, plus comprehensive benefits. The salary range for the 2021-2022 fiscal year has yet to be determined. Starting salary is dependent on experience and typically at the lower end of the range.

This position will report administratively to Linn-Benton Community College but supports a statewide program accountable to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission. It is a fixed-term grant-funded position that concludes on June 30, 2023.

As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.

Successful candidate will be required to submit official transcripts within 30 days of hire date.

Position Title: Open Education Instructional Designer Division/Department: Academic Progression Location Albany Campus, Albany, OR Job Summary:

Work closely with academic departments, managers, and faculty grantees at Oregon community colleges and universities to develop and adopt high-quality, sustainable, and customizable open educational resources ( OER ). Support faculty from all backgrounds and skill levels through collaboration, consistency, innovation, and transparency. Evaluate and make recommendations on the purchase or creation of platforms, tools, and processes to support student users and streamline faculty efforts, in addition to supporting and managing the use of existing tools and platforms already in use in Oregon. Work closely with the Statewide Open Education Program Director to promote textbook affordability for community college and university students and facilitate widespread adoption of open, low-cost, high-quality materials. The successful candidate for this position will have a broad and compelling interest in all aspects of instructional design and technology that motivates the candidate’s practices in supporting course content and curriculum development, outcomes assessment, diversity and inclusion initiatives, OER advocacy, and student engagement.

Required Qualifications:

Experience, Education, and Training: Requires master’s degree in instructional design; or master’s degree in related field with increasingly responsible work experience in education. Requires familiarity with issues in open education, open textbooks, open access, copyright, and intellectual property. Requires experience working with faculty and students

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and solve technology and workflow issues while staying on deadline. Must have knowledge of issues in open education, open textbooks, open access, copyright, and intellectual property. Must be familiar with web development tools, metadata creation, and accessibility standards. Requires knowledge of instructional design, including experience with learning management systems. Must be skilled in collaborative decision-making and have strong interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of a team working with culturally, socioeconomically, and geographically diverse faculty, students, and staff. Requires highly developed written and oral communication skills, including excellent presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working with OER is preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is performed primarily from home or in office, meeting rooms, or classroom settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. The successful candidate may work remotely from Linn-Benton Community College but must live in Oregon. Work pressures, frequent interruptions, disturbances of workflow, and/or irregularities in work schedules are expected and occur regularly. Considerable time is spent working on the computer. Minimal physical exertion is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling everyday objects and materials are needed to perform the job satisfactorily. Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Position requires travel to community colleges and universities within the state of Oregon, spending multiple days on each trip. Must provide own transportation for travel.

Essential Duties:

Collaborate with faculty to develop engaging, interactive, and effective openly licensed courses and curricula that address various learning styles and are accessible to all students.

Write promotional messages, raise awareness, and contribute to repositories to ensure that OER is showcased and searchable via and other relevant channels.

Develop and apply research-based standards for OER produced by grantees in a variety of formats (textbooks, syllabi, websites, videos, etc).

Organize and participate in professional development opportunities to learn about and encourage the use of best practices for instructional design, assessment, technologies, and open educational practices, with a focus on the benefit to higher education in Oregon.

Research, write and produce openly licensed documentation, reports, and other instructional materials (e.g., websites, multimedia, and online tutorials) to support faculty learning.

Prioritize accessibility best practices and ensure that OER published via Oregon’s statewide program meet current standards.

Creatively and effectively model use of instructional technologies such as learning management systems, databases, web development tools, and presentation software, with an emphasis on open source technologies where possible.

Evaluate and make recommendations on purchasing or creating new platforms, tools, and processes to enhance open educational practices and open-source learning environments.

Report on the increase in the use of the collection as a result of improvements made. Contribute to tracking student savings and other impacts resulting from the statewide OER program.

Participate in the development of statewide OER program and collaborate to meet program goals. Participate on the Statewide OER Steering Committee and lead relevant workgroups with stakeholders.

Contribute to statewide OER program activities such as evaluating OER grant proposals, mentoring faculty and other stakeholders, fielding reference questions on copyright and publishing issues, etc.

Plan and advocate for the sustainable continuation of statewide instructional design support.
