College Success & Career Coaches provide holistic wrap-around support for students to increase equitable college and career success. This position will work remotely during the COVID-19 crisis, and then in Columbia County at PCC’s Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC) once on-campus services resume. The position will serve as an ambassador to the community, helping navigate and access OMIC and PCC educational opportunities and resources.

This position will be part of two dynamic teams, OMIC and the Career Pathways & STEP Team. OMIC is a collaborative model that brings together industry, academia, workforce, and government to foster innovation and strengthen the manufacturing industry through applied research and advanced technical training. Career Pathways & STEP, supporting students to enter and progress in their career pathways-- adult basic skills programs to stackable credential to Career and Technical Education (CTE) degrees. Also as part of the STEP grant, focused on increasing resources, college completion, and career opportunities for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients at PCC.

OMIC is the college’s first physical location in Columbia County, and it will serve as an important entry point for Columbia County students, industry, and community partners to engage with Portland Community College--both within and beyond the context of advanced manufacturing.

For this position, candidates will need to demonstrate a deep commitment to student success, equity, and inclusion. Candidates should have experience and possess an understanding of the dynamics of systems and institutions that impact individuals' educational opportunities, and economic mobility. Staff will need to apply a poverty-informed, trauma-informed, and racial justice lens to their work. Staff will also be interfacing and collaborating frequently with partners in the community, employers, and/or internal college staff and faculty.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating, communicating, and working in a team and across departments, organizations, and institutions to accomplish project or program goals.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing rapport supporting students from diverse backgrounds, (first generation college status, race, gender, adult learner, and income), to support student success and career development.
  • Experience with outreach, facilitating presentations and/or teaching youth and/or adult learners in a community college, workforce development, or community settings.
  • Demonstrated experience with strengths-based, outcome driven case management or coaching in program or department with multiple projects running concurrently.
  • Experience collaborating with external partners (employers, community-based organizations, K-12, workforce development partners, or state agencies) to increase student education or career opportunities, and/or resource/benefit access.
  • Proven experience collecting, preparing, presenting, and reviewing a variety of complex information and data provided by several program managers/ team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to address equity and inclusion as a priority when working in a team.


Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Social Science, Communications, or related field (experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis).
  • Demonstrated experience working with college students, clients who have barriers in achieving self sufficiency, developmentally or physically disabled adults, or at-risk populations.
  • Experience in case management in a social service or educational setting ("case management" is work with individual students/clients over a period of time. It includes individual guidance, assessment, and reporting of results).
  • Demonstrated experience within area of specialization of position applied for.

Position Grade 3 Starting Salary Expectations $48,976 to $52,465 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Position Grade Salary Range $48976 to $84923 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)

  • Starts at 13.33 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of services)
  • 1 day of sick leave per month
  • 11 holidays
  • 3 additional personal leave days per year

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is typically performed in an office environment.
  • Incumbents regularly drive to business sites which requires the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours is required.
