The Gordon Career Center works with students of all class years to translate their liberal education into a lifetime of meaningful work. Its innovative approach to career education encourages students to design their own careers by exploring the intersection between their interests, the skills they have and wish to acquire, and market demand. The Center links students to alumni, employers, and graduate programs around the globe in fields that reflect the impressive breadth of opportunities explored by Wesleyan graduates.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Advising, the Business Career Advisor is responsible for providing guidance to students interested in careers in finance, consulting, marketing, entrepreneurship, and other business fields.

The career advisor may also support the general advising team as needed in both student advising and resume reviews.

Responsibilities include:

Provide one-on-one advising, mock interviews, and application support to students participating in recruiting activities with business employers.

Develop targeted programming aimed at preparing students for rigorous interviews with banks, investment firms, consultancies, and other business employers.

Serve as primary point of contact for assigned academic departments, administrative offices, and student groups for the purpose of providing information about the office and collaborating on programming.

Work closely with employer relations team to cultivate and maintain recruiting relationships with business employers.

Provide advising, mock interview, and application support for alumni seeking entrance into business school.

Work with students in the general advising pool as needed to help them communicate their career-related values, skills and interests to networking contacts and potential employers through resumes, cover letters and personal statements.

Participate in the implementation of programs and events (employer information sessions, career treks to offsite locations, etc.) as needed throughout the year.

Serve on internal working groups as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and four years of professional experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.

Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of career development as well as the hiring practices for entry level candidates in investment banking and management consulting.

Must be flexible and willing to adapt to the needs of the office as they arise.

Proven ability to work as a member of a high-functioning team.

Effective communication skills.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and work collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related discipline.

Ability to articulate how a liberal arts education can lead to a successful business career.
