Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering seeks a leader with vision, a track record in business and technology education, and a dynamic, inclusive, and enterprising style to serve as the inaugural MBAi Deputy Program Director. The MBAi Program, jointly conceived and developed by McCormick and the Kellogg School of Management, supports technology-rich business education for students seeking to be business leaders in an increasingly technology-driven world. Given the commitment and resources available from McCormick and Kellogg, the new MBAi Deputy Program Director will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of truly integrated business and engineering education at one of the world’s premier private research universities and to position Northwestern as a leader in the ongoing development of technically savvy business leaders.

The Deputy Director reports to the Dean of the McCormick School of Engineering with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the MBAi Program Director, a Kellogg-School faculty member. The Deputy Director will hold a non-tenured clinical faculty position in the McCormick School consistent with their experience and credentials. While Kellogg and McCormick leadership jointly designed the MBAi program and its foundational curriculum, the inaugural Deputy Director will be responsible for its buildout, evolution, and ongoing management. The program’s entering class is being admitted now and will begin their program in Fall 2021.

Working with the Program’s administrative staff but also drawing on expertise present within the School of Engineering and in the central administration of the University, the Deputy Director is responsible for ensuring that the McCormick curricular components are well integrated into the overall Program as well as working with the Program Director to steward the Program’s financial and human resources and for contributing to the development of additional financial resources to maximize the quality and scope of its activities. As the chief executive of the McCormick portion of this program, the Deputy Director is fully responsible for the Program’s curriculum and teaching as well as its efficient administration and operation and for growing and shepherding its resources wisely.

The successful candidate will be a subject-matter expertise in a field relevant to the MBAi curriculum such as data science, AI, machine learning, software development or operations research. They will possess a current understanding of AI in one or more industry sector as well as an informed and broad view of how data sciences will continue to reshape industry sectors along with the ability to teach graduate level technology-based courses in the MBAi program. They will have a clear orientation to action, leadership presence, and effective communication skills and possess the ability to build and sustain relationships with many constituencies, including deans, faculty, staff, students, alumni, administrators, companies, and donors. A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required along with a graduate degree, ideally an MBA or PhD, or extensive experience at a managerial or C-level position in the field. The successful candidate will also have an active roster of industry relationships and the entrepreneurial capacity to expand this roster to the benefit of MBAi students as well as a demonstrated track record of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of leading and managing, of shaping organizational culture, and of curricular and co-curricular programming.
