General Summary/Purpose

The Research Program Coordinator works directly with the IPSAR faculty investigators and Research Managers to successfully implement a variety of clinically-oriented research studies focused on etiology and treatment of alcohol, nicotine, cocaine and other drug use disorders.

This individual will work extensively with patients and research participants in one-to-one assessments and interviews for ongoing clinical trials. This person will assist in carrying out research in accordance with good clinical practices in such activities as obtaining informed consent, data and specimen collection, and patient follow-up over time. The Research Program Coordinator will coordinate, collect, manage, and conduct data-related activities for multiple clinical research trials.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains a good working knowledge of all assigned protocols and reporting requirements.
  • Adheres to all protocol requirements to ensure validity of clinical research data.
  • Interacts with clinicians and other gatekeepers to access the patient population.
  • Conducts telephone screening of potential research subjects and completes screening questionnaire.
  • Verifies patient eligibility for studies.
  • Serves as study recruiter in JHH, including conducting on-site screening, communicating with clinic staff and distributing flyers and study materials.
  • Completes the informed consent process with in-person assessments.
  • Conducts in-person assessments, facilitating completion of standardized instruments, urine and breathalyzer collection, escorts participants as needed.
  • Interviews patients.
  • Reports adverse events to the PI.
  • Coordinates, collects, manages, and conducts data related activities, including:
  • Develops data collection worksheets, forms and questionnaires.
  • Enters and QCs study data, maintains database and develops tables/figures.
  • Oversees, administers and manages research data to produce reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of data for analysis and publication, including abstracting inputting, organizing and editing data.
  • Prepares for and participate in audits and monitoring of studies.
  • Participates in study staff meetings.
  • Completes required training activities.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Some related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
* JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’sdegree in psychology

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
