Position Summary:

The Accessible Learning Technology Coordinator (ALTC) will take a lead role in the daily workflow and management of notetaking accommodations, including peer notetaking, notetaking technology (smartpens, mobile, and desktop apps), along with, being cross-trained in other adaptive/assistive technology (AT) areas. This position works with a dedicated team of McBurney Disability Resource Center professional and student staff at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to provide alternative formats (document conversion), furniture & physical access, notetaking (including notetaking technologies), media captioning, and remote captioning/interpreting support to ensure equal access for students with disabilities. These accommodations are delivered in a fast-paced team environment, working directly and indirectly with students with disabilities and instructors.

The ALTC provides notetaking consults for students to determine appropriate notetaking accommodations, adaptive technology, and strategies. This position supports the development of innovative ways to improve and implement notetaking accommodations, while also proactively working to improve the inherent accessibility of campus and instruction in order make campus more welcoming and inclusive for all. They also assist in developing, maintaining, and implementing training materials on adaptive/assistive technology accommodations, policies, and processes.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (by the start of the position) in education, special education, educational/instructional technology, adaptive/assistive technology, rehabilitation psychology, occupational therapy, speech & language pathology, instructional design, curriculum & instruction, library and information sciences, disability-related field, or bachelor's degree coupled with related experience.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: notetaking accommodations, notetaking strategies/technologies, alternative format production, adaptive/assistive technology, accommodation/accessibility services, instructional design, digital/web accessibility, universal design, or disability related field
- Experience working directly with individuals with disabilities, other marginalized populations, or students in higher education
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of the impacts of disability to identify barriers to learning, identify appropriate classroom accommodations and strategies, and provide training
- Experience in the areas of learning disabilities, mental health, ADHD, and/or chronic health
- Knowledge of notetaking skills, study skills, and the range of ways that students learn and process information.
- Experience working with digital accessibility, physical accessibility, and/or universal design principles in instruction/technology
- Experience troubleshooting, supporting, and/or using technology to implement solutions for individual needs across a variety of platforms & applications (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, websites)
- Experience effectively managing a high-volume workflow in a team environment
- Ability to produce high-quality accommodations, while balancing immediate needs and managing deadlines
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users
- Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to disability access and compliance

Additional Information:

This full-time Academic Staff position has a desired start date between July 1, 2021 and August 1, 2021 to provide some flexibility during the current pandemic situation. A competitive salary and benefits package are available, with salary ($48,000 to $56,000) dependent on qualifications.
