Jacobson Center Job Description
Job Summary
As a Writing Instructor: Teach writing to a variety of students in the classroom and in individual counseling sessions at the Jacobson Center.
As Writing Studies Specialist: Provide institutional expertise on the theory and practice of teaching writing for academic and public purposes.
Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Essential Functions
Classroom teaching (33%)
Teach two writing courses per year.
Writing Instructor (33%)
Serve as a writing instructor (meeting with students to discuss and review writing assignments) for scheduled half-hour intervals at the Jacobson Center. Sessions will focus on student requests that range from help in developing a thesis statement to reviewing consistency of voice in graduate-level work.
Faculty development and support (20%)
Play a leadership role in formulating faculty development related to the teaching of writing. Consult with, advise, and support faculty in the disciplines on pedagogical strategies that enhance the mission of the College with regard to writing instruction.
Other Functions
Jacobson Center projects (14%)
Participate in timely Jacobson Center projects, for example, the development of curricular and other pedagogical materials on writing, and the development, implementation, and analysis of writing assessments. Contribute to the Writing Enriched Curriculum program.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
MA in Writing Studies or an equivalent field; experience teaching college-level writing courses; experience teaching writing in a writing center; familiarity with the literature and resources on teaching writing in a wide vareity of classroom settings; knowledge of writing assessment methodologies.
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with public-facing writing best practices and publication platforms. Familiarity with the mission of a women's college.
Skills
Excellent communication, writing, organizational, and teamwork skills. Experience with Windows, Google suite, and electronic classroom management systems, like Moodle.
Additional Information
This is a two-year, academic year, limited term appointment.
