The starting faculty salary range for 2020-2021 is $57,354 – $65,815 for a 1.0 FTE, 168-day, academic year contract. The salary range for the 2021-22 academic year has yet to be determined. New faculty will be hired for a 168-day contract plus an additional 3 days to attend Fall term Instructional Strategies Institute ( ISI ) training. LBCC offers a comprehensive benefit package.

LBCC is an Equal Opportunity Educator and Employer. Position Title: Sociology Faculty Division/Department: Social Science Location Albany Campus, Albany, OR Job Summary:

The primary teaching responsibility for this faculty member is teaching classes in Sociology, with the possibility of other assignments in related fields. The faculty member is expected to fully engage as a teacher and faculty member in the fulfillment of the college’s mission. The faculty member will represent the Social Science department in campus or statewide committees as needed, work with colleagues on curricular development, and advise students.

The faculty member provides a variety of learning opportunities that will encourage and stimulate individual students to strive to obtain the fullest potential in their various life roles.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Sociology, or a Master’s degree in a related field plus 27 graduate credit hours in Sociology. Teaching experience at the community college or university level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualifications to teach in a secondary field which requires a minimum of 27 graduate hours in a field such as, but not limited to, Sociology of Inequality, Cultural Geography, Human Development, Women’s Studies, Ethnic Studies, or Political Science. A demonstrable commitment to equity, inclusion and the success of a diverse student population.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Requires the ability to work with staff and students.

Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.

Essential Duties:

Plans, develops and presents classes for students in accordance with approved course outlines on topics relating to Sociology. Teaches with the goal of creating an equitable learning environment in which all students, regardless of race, age, gender, socioeconomic status or other demographic indicators, are equally successful.

Advises students in the major and in related majors.

Develops the program and provides leadership for the Sociology program. Participates in student recruitment efforts as appropriate. Participates in improving student retention both in the classroom and in outside-of-classroom activities, such as student club advising.

Works closely with other educational organizations and entities, including but not limited to Oregon State University, to ensure articulation of program, courses, and curriculum.

Participates as a member of the Social Science department and promotes a spirit of collegiality in dealings with college staff. Embraces the college’s value of inclusivity, embracing the uniqueness of every individual, and promoting free and civil expression of ideas, perspectives, and cultures.

Assesses student learning at the course, program, and institutional level.

Maintains competency and current relevancy in the subject matter of courses taught and in teaching skills.

Maintains an appropriate knowledge and utilization of professional and teaching technology.

Represents the department and the college in college-wide, statewide, or community events as appropriate.

Assumes responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
