Our Strengths

Our 200+ programs include automotive technology, radio, television and film, allied health, veterinary technology, and architecture and design technology, among others.

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Instruction for Economic and Workforce Development and in close cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction and Student Learning, the Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management and the Vice President of Administrative Services and Student Support, the Dean of Arts, Media & Entertainment ( AME ) provides general supervision of the affairs of the area, and facilitates and promotes effective student learning through the use of technology, alternative learning environments, integrated curriculum, and distance learning. The Dean of AME also works with staff from the other colleges and sites in the District to review, coordinate and implement the District Strategic Plan in coordination with college planning and to promote effective student learning in a multi-college environment.

The academic disciplines which the Dean of AME currently supervises include: Art, Art History, Broadcast Journalism, Digital Media, Dance, Film/Digital Cinema Production, Film and Media Studies, Journalism, Music, Photography, Radio Production, Radio, Television and Film, Television Production, Theater Arts, and Theater Arts Production.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

LEADERSHIP / COORDINATION :

• Providing leadership in the Career and Academic Communities for teaching excellence and innovative student learning for the assurance of student success, and for the continued evaluation and improvement of division instructional programs.
• Overseeing the art gallery, theater, dance and music facilities, program performances and events.
• Performing duties in the administration and supervision of the instructional areas.
• Assuming leadership and responsibility for curriculum development in the instructional areas.
• Attending and serving on assigned college and district committees.
• Supporting and participating in the college accreditation process.

COLLABORATION / TEAM BUILDING :

• Promoting a collegial atmosphere within AME and throughout the college.
• Coordinating the activities of the faculty and staff in the instructional areas.
• Employing techniques such as interest-based conflict resolution and other appropriate strategies to resolve disputes and to enhance communication and cooperation among the members of the college and district communities.
• Serving as a member of the CRC management team to assist in coordination of all campus activities.
• Providing leadership to the AME Student Success Team.
• Supporting and participating in program-specific advisory boards and accreditation processes.

PROJECT DOCUMENTATION / DELIVERABLES :

• Promoting, organizing and overseeing assessment of student learning outcomes for systematic and continuous quality improvement.
• Developing area budget recommendations and facilitating utilization plans.
• Administering day, extended day, weekend, on-line and summer offerings in the instructional areas.
• Supporting college-wide implementation of student success strategies such as Guided Pathways.
• Utilizing data and equity-minded decision-making in the execution of job responsibilities.

TRAINING / STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND SUPERVISION :

• Promoting staff development and supporting a climate which fosters innovation and academic excellence.
• Supporting a climate which promotes anti-racism and cultural proficiency.
• Assuming leadership and responsibility for staff evaluation and development in the instructional areas.
• Developing instructor assignments and class schedules which meet student needs.

• Performing other duties as assigned.

The administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus work and/or hours.

Work Year 12 month Work Schedule Total Hrs per Week/Day 40 Special Requirements Minimum Qualifications

1. Have a master’s degree* from an accredited institution completed by June 1, 2021.

2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment

3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
