The Department of Sociology invites applicants for a one-year full-time temporary appointment at the rank of assistant professor beginning Fall 2021. The ideal candidate will be a criminologist or sociologist who specializes in critical, social justice-oriented criminology. These areas may include but are not limited to race, social inequalities, and crime, mass incarceration, feminist and queer criminology, policing and society, abolitionist criminology, and other critical areas in justice and crime studies. The successful applicant would teach face-to-face courses in introductory sociological criminology and a criminology elective.

Responsibilities include a teaching load of three four-credit courses per semester, student advising, continuing scholarship, and departmental and University service.



Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Specialization in critical, social justice-oriented criminology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of diversity, inclusion, and social justice in higher education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Criminology, Sociology, or related field.
  • Experience teaching introductory criminology or sociology.


Additional Information:

This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) bargaining unit at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary commensurate with experience in accordance with Appendix O of the MSCA contract (http://mscaunion.org/day-and-dgce-contracts/).
