Position Summary 

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Communication, the Communications Assistant- Athletics will handle sports public relations, media relations, and communications responsibilities for assigned sports. These responsibilities include but are not limited to creative services, graphic design, video, social media, statistics, schedules, rosters, record books, website management & game recaps. This position will also assist with game day operations and other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Communication to help enhance both the external and internal image of the Athletic Department.  

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university   
  • Two or more years of experience in college athletics as an Athletic Communications graduate assistant or full-time staff member  
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills.  
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities  

  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in Communication, Sports Administration; Recreation Management, or Journalism  
  • Four or more years of experience as an Athletic Communications staff member for a college athletic department.   
  • Experience using Sidearm Sports website provider is preferred  
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they pertain to athletic communications along with NCAA approved statistical procedures.  

Major Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the strategic development and implementation of creative marketing content, video, social media campaigns for Skyhawk Athletics; produce marketing content for media guides, game programs, news releases, websites, ticket flyers, fundraising flyers, camp brochures, print advertising, radio promos and other campus publications that promote intercollegiate athletics.  
  • Serve as the primary, day-to-day contact for assigned sports.  
  • Statistical reporting using Stat Crew and NCAA Live Stats, pre-game notes, game-day information and post-game releases to local, regional and national outlets.  
  • Assist with home event operations for assigned sports, including the training and direction of student workers and game day staff.  
  • Nominates student-athletes for awards on campus, as well as at the regional and national level.   
  • Coordinates the collection, maintenance and reporting of statistical information to the RMAC and NCAA associations; maintains historical athletic information for future use.  
  • Knowledge of photography, video production, and Adobe Creative Suite applications, specifically Adobe Premiere Pro, InDesign and Photoshop to create promotional material.  
  • Execute interviews with student-athletes, coaches and other campus constituents.  
  • Manage web streaming of home events for assigned sports.  
  • Assist in all aspects of department activity in support of coaches and students; coverage of special events as needed.  
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities  
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.  
  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation  

Salary is $36,000 per year plus a comprehensive benefits package.
