Job Description

The Virginia Tech Program in Real Estate seeks to hire an innovative Academic Advisor. This position provides an opportunity for someone to participate in growing and enhancing the B.S. in real estate academic program and be part of an exciting and motivated team. We seek a multi-talented individual to work in collaboration with the Director, faculty, and staff to continue developing an academic program that is one of the leading real estate degrees in the country. This individual will work independently to manage the day-to-day advising and student interactions for the Program’s undergraduate degree. The successful candidate will also participate in student recruitment in collaboration with staff, faculty, and the Director.
Responsibilities for this position include:
• Advising prospective and current students on academic information, applications, course registration and graduation requirements,
• Leading summer orientation,
• Facilitating the day-to-day interactions with Real Estate majors and minors, and
• Providing reports on student information as needed to the Director and college.
The successful candidate will have a service-oriented, can-do, how-can-I-help-you attitude to support student and Program successes. The selected candidate will also be forward thinking and seek out opportunities to enhance student advising and academic success. This person will maintain effective communication with all levels of university academic management, will be the main point of contact for academic units with students double majoring in real estate, and will be a member of the Pamplin advising team.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree and experience to support position responsibilities; excellent interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational and time management skills; attention to detail; capacity to learn and follow University academic procedures; demonstrated experience effectively processing and maintaining confidential information; ability to communication effectively with diverse clientele; and knowledge and skills to carry out position responsibilities listed above; demonstrated knowledge of and ability to quickly learn relevant software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Acrobat, Banner, Hokie SPA, Scholar, Dreamweaver, and other pertinent software; ability and willingness to understand and work effectively with various campus units; appreciation of diverse cultures and audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Academic experience; knowledge of undergraduate program policies in higher education; business operations experience demonstrating exceptional administrative, logistical and personnel management skills.
