Job Description

The Jutras lab at Virginia Tech is recruiting an eager, talented postdoctoral associate to study the biology and pathogenesis of Borrelia burgdorferi— the Lyme disease spirochete. We are seeking someone with exceptional expertise in mouse immunology and bacteriology to join our team. Primary studies will focus on the pathogenic properties of B. burgdorferi peptidoglycan (Jutras et al. 2019 PNAS, https://www.pnas.org/content/116/27/13498.long). In addition, exciting opportunities are available to leverage these avenues of investigation for both diagnostic and vaccine development.

The position is available immediately and provides multiple years of funding through both federal and private channels. This opportunity provides full benefits and competitive salary compensation. The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is hired.

Required Qualifications

PhD in immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, or related fields. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in:
1) Experimental mouse models
2) Mouse and/or human immunology
3) Cell and tissue culture experience
4) Microbiology, with preference given the host-pathogen experience
5) Molecular biology
