Job Summary:

The job will include managing the Rowan University Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF), which includes the cold spray additive manufacturing equipment, and the Rowan University Sustainable Materials Research Laboratory (SMRL) at the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Institute.

Job Responsibilities:

The qualified candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing research and contract work being conducted within the AMF and SMRL;
  • Directing and conducting experiments related to all ongoing projects within the AMF and SMRL;
  • Leading the collection and analyses of data;
  • Overseeing the troubleshooting of equipment issues;
  • Interacting with students and other AMMI personnel and ensuring safety is always a priority;
  • Coordinating with all stakeholders, such as the manufacturers, sponsors, partners, and research team members to ensure that all deliverables are met;
  • Preparing reports and giving presentations to all stakeholders;
  • Traveling to conferences and workshops;
  • Assisting in preparing proposals and associated budgets;
  • Assisting in preparing white papers;
  • Supervising and training graduate and undergraduate students; and
  • Developing institute and project goals, policies and procedures.


Position Requirements :

  • Education: MS in Engineering (PhD preferred in CHE, ME or MSE)
  • Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college)
  • A Ph.D. degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience




Experience and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Four (4) years of professional experience (preferably as an administrator in education, higher education or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority).
  • Ability to design and fabricate parts
  • Conduct laboratory, semi-pilot scale, and pilot-scale experiments
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer and equipment issues
  • Knowledge in polymers and polymeric composites is not required but a plus
  • Ability to acquire wide knowledge of college policies and procedures
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the state agencies, federal and local governments, and private organizations that have a working relationship with AMMI
  • Ability to assist in the planning and administration of AMMI by developing and recommending goals, policies and procedures
  • Ability to evaluate performance and develop alternative methods to improve performance and meet established objectives
  • Ability to effectively manage other staff members including developing work operations and performance standards, making performance evaluations and recommending personnel actions
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships and coordinate with other offices or organizations that impact on or relate to the work of AMMI
  • Ability to advice and counsel students and others associated with AMF and SMRL
  • Ability to review applications and make determinations concerning the eligibility of the applicant
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with supervisors and staff
  • Ability to develop, administer and monitor a section or sections of budgets
  • Ability to develop and recommend project goals, policies and procedures
  • Ability to prepare clear reports and studies that include findings and recommendations
  • Ability to prepare clear and detailed correspondence
  • Ability to represent Rowan University at conferences, seminars and meetings
  • Ability to supervise and maintain essential records and files
