Position Summary:

The Research Administrator works directly with principal investigator(s) and/or research program director(s), in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering which include Wisconsin Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) and the Department of Engineering Physics and other possible future large center grants to carry out research administrative functions related sponsored grants, agreements, or award management.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Prefer at least 3 years experience in a research or academic setting. Previous experience in research administration, and grant activities with knowledge of federal regulations for the conduct of basic science, research and patent regulations preferred. Must have strong analytical and writing skills and possess the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with faculty, researchers and staff at all levels, including granting and funding sponsors. Experience editing and reviewing research documents, awards and contracts desirable. This position requires a significant degree of organization, with face to face interaction with research faculty, staff, students, campus administrative departments, Deans, granting organizations and both federal and non-federal research sponsors.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, willing to accept and initiate new projects, recognize opportunities, understand organization psychology, and practice a networked team-oriented work style. Proven ability to focus and independently oversee and organize multiple projects simultaneously--some with tight deadlines. Attention to detail with excellent time management, prioritizing, and organizational skills. Possess positive and strong communication skills, independent problem solving skills, and apply critical and conceptual thinking.
