Syracuse University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering ( CEE ) is
seeking candidates to fill a full-time non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor position with an emphasis on structural engineering and civil infrastructure design. The expected start date for this position is August 2021. The appointment is for a period of three years, with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will contribute to the CEE Department’s educational missions by engaging in teaching of general undergraduate courses as well as structural engineering graduate courses. They are also required to advise and work with students on projects, serve on Department and College committees, participate in course and curriculum development, and assist with student recruitment and retention. In addition, they are expected to assume an administrative role in leading the department’s ABET accreditation process and to assist with preparation for Middle States accreditation. Candidates who hold professional licensure (e.g., PE, SE, LEED ) or have relevant industry background are particularly welcomed.

The CEE Department at Syracuse University currently has 18 faculty members engaging in teaching and research in the areas of construction, environmental, geotechnical, and structural engineering. There are approximately 230 undergraduate and 100 graduate students in our civil and environmental programs. Our department offers ABET accredited B.S. degrees in both Civil and Environmental Engineering, as well as Middle States accredited M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering. The Department also has a joint graduate level certificate program in Public Infrastructure Management and Leadership with Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree with experience in teaching general undergraduate courses and structural engineering graduate courses.

Job Specific Qualifications

Applicants should be familiar with the ABET and Middle States accreditation processes and possess some administrative experience. Those who hold a professional license are especially welcomed

Responsibilities

Develop and teach general undergraduate courses and structural engineering graduate courses. Play a lead role in preparing review materials for ABET accreditation and assist with Middle States accreditation. Serve on Department and College committees and assist with student recruitment and retention. Hold regular office hours. Advise and work with students on projects. Work with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds to advance the educational goals of the Department.
