Job Summary

The Director supervises all administrative aspects of Student Health Services and provides leadership to ensure professional, responsive and high-quality health services for students and the campus community. Health Services embraces a holistic-oriented health model that provides students with high quality, cost-effective health care.

Salary Grade A13 Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
• Execute the planning, organization, development and implementation of operational policies and procedures in congruence with the mission of Student Health Services, Division of Student affairs and Elmhurst University.
• Support the University’s mission, vision and values.
• Manage the Student Health Service budget.
• Stay current with all local, state and federal and Elmhurst University policies and regulations affecting Student Health Services operations and ensure that all relevant law and regulations are followed. Advise staff of any changes in such regulations and requirements.
• Manage the hiring, training, and work performance entire nursing staff, physician and administrative assistants. Complete performance evaluations yearly. Manage appointment of and negotiation of the contract with the Student Health Service physician.
• Maintain professional licensures for all clinical staff and physician.
• Provide staff with the opportunity for professional growth and development. This includes continuing education courses, workshops and conferences.
• Provide consultation to the campus community (staff, faculty, administrators and students) relative to medical issues and concerns.
• Serve as a member of the campus Care Team. Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Student Affairs Office, Campus Security, Residence Life, and other campus offices/services to ensure coordinated response and care.
• Collaborate with Director of Counseling Services, nurse practitioners and physician to provide coordinated medical care for students.
• Contribute to the university community by serving on committees, program involvement, outreach, and other campus-wide activities.
• Network with professionals on campus and in the community to provide informed and coordinated services to students.
• Collaborate with local, state and federal health organizations to support clinical knowledge and decisions.

PLANNING POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION :
• Serves as the professional administrative office bearing the responsibility for the development, implementation and administration of policies and procedures for all health services and program.
• Approves all new program, policies, and revisions of existing Student Health Service programs and ensures that changes are implemented effectively.
• Maintains responsibility in the planning, organization, development and implementation of operational policies, short and long-range goals in congruence with the mission of Student Health Services, Division of Student Affairs and Elmhurst College.

PERSONNEL :
• Interviews, trains and supervises professional, clerical and student employees. Regular performance reviews are completed as scheduled. Proposes appointment of and negotiates contract with SHS physician, subject to the approval of the Vice President of Student Affairs and President of the University.
• Evaluates SHS programs, services, and operations.
• Administers and assists in the professional growth and development of staff.

OPERATIONS :
• Develops and implements of operational policies, delivering optimal nursing care, program development, training, dispute resolution, scheduling expertise, labor negotiation, and clinical collaborative skills.
• Maintains current knowledge of all federal, state, local, and University policies and regulations affecting SHS operations and ensure that all relevant law and regulations are followed. Advises staff of any changes in such regulations and requirements.

BUSINESS AND FINANCE :
• Prepares an annual budget and assumes the financial responsibilities for operating expenditures.
• Monitors revenue and expenses on an ongoing basis to ensure the operation remains within the budgetary parameters.
• Oversees the implementation of Student Health Insurance.

EXTERNAL RELATIONS :
• Maintains good communication with the Dean of Student Affairs and other University departments and student groups to ensure cooperative relationships.
• Develops collaborative working relationships with other colleges and external health care entities.
• Maintains liaisons with local, state, and federal health agencies and private health related organizations to assure a continual flow of dialog and industry information useful in the maintenance of current understanding of health care trends.
• Serves as principal spokesman for the SHS and its activities, including building and maintaining a positive image in the community and within the student body.
• Maintains professional affiliations and enhance professional growth and development for currency with the latest trends in health care administration.
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
• Supports mission, vision and values.

Minimum Qualifications

• Earned Master’s Degree in Nursing with a Nurse Practitioner certification, in the State of Illinois.
• At least 2 years of experience in administrative role(s) in a college or university health service.
• Broad clinical knowledge in primary care, women’s health and college health issues.
• Ability to make independent nursing judgments; determines appropriate course of action in compliance with the Standards of Nursing Practice and Illinois Nursing Practice Act.
• Demonstrated experience working with multicultural, LGBTQ, and other diverse populations.
• Strong leadership skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, work collaboratively with professional staff and colleagues, and effectively formulate and execute informed administrative and clinical decisions.

Preferred Qualifications Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
