PRIMARY PURPOSE :
To provide instruction in the Early Childhood Education Department. Part-time instructors work with the program director and education faculty to design and plan classes, according to Department and College standards, to direct student discussion, and evaluate student performance in the classroom.

• This is a part-time (< .50 FTE ) non-benefited position, hired on a term-by-term basis. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty compensation begins at Step 1 / $616 per load unit (LU). Load Unit is equivalent to class credit; and shall include both teaching and other assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty positions are not represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• May include travel throughout the College district.
• Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date.
• COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
• The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.

Essential Functions:

Essential Functions
1. Provide instruction for Early Childhood Education. Utilize current research and current best practices in instruction. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening, possible weekends, and classes taught off campus and delivered in-person (as conditions allow), or online, synchronously or asynchronously.
2. Support the Early Childhood Education program director and faculty to maintain collaborative community partnerships.
3. Work closely with the Early Childhood Education program director to arrange and support student field placement experiences and evaluations throughout Central Oregon.
4. Provide Additional Course Assistance. A minimum of one office hour per week per course is required for student help sessions.
5. Other College Responsibilities. This may include cooperating with administration in program and course development, and participating in department or program assessment.
6. Perform other essential duties and tasks as assigned by the department and/or College.

Marginal Job Functions
1. Cooperate with other College personnel to assist students with career planning, job placement, and follow-up studies.
2. Act as a resource person for students.
3. Work with appropriate College personnel to write proposals for program funds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1. Thorough knowledge of Early Childhood Education field and the ability to provide instruction in the theories of developmentally appropriate practice across the full spectrum of early childhood education (birth-age 8).
2. Ability to work closely with campus and community partners (e.g., local school districts, Head Start, and social service agencies) toward improved collaborations for program development and sustainability.
3. Maintain a high level of professional preparation through licensure and/or ongoing professional development in the Early Childhood Education community at the local, state, and national levels.
4. Demonstrates commitment to diversity and multicultural perspectives, including anti-bias curriculum.
5. Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
6. Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructors to observe, direct, and supervise students in cooperative work situations.
7. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations.
8. Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
9. Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
10. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
11. Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
12. Ability to work with Early Childhood Education faculty (full-time, part-time, and adjunct), full-time Social Science faculty, and other COCC staff at all levels.
13. Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours (including nights and weekends) and locations (such as Redmond, Madras and Prineville), as required.
14. Willingness and ability to work with other programs, departments, and community agencies serving the field of early childhood education.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

The ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Education: Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, or closely related field.
2. Experience:
a. Diverse experiences working in schools and community settings serving children and families.
b. At least one year teaching college level Education courses with evidence of excellence in teaching. Or equivalent experience working with adult learners.
c. Demonstrated experience in innovative curriculum development and the use of appropriate technology in the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. HOT (Hybrid and Online) training.
2. Prior experience teaching in alternative formats (online, hybrid).
3. Experience working with diverse populations.
4. Demonstrated leadership abilities in terms of outreach.
